Shafts and their properties

Versatility

Shafts are characterised by their exceptional versatility and are used in a wide variety of industrial applications - from machine construction and automotive technology to conveyor systems and automation systems.

.
Materials

Shafts are usually made from high-quality steel or stainless steel. These materials offer an excellent combination of strength and corrosion resistance.

Stainless steel is particularly resistant to high humidity and aggressive substances, while steel offers high strength and malleability - ideal for heavily loaded shafts.

Load capacity

Steel or stainless steel shafts transmit high torques and reliably withstand radial and axial forces. Through hardening and precise machining, they are also ideally suited for dynamic loads and permanent stress.

Our manufacturing methods

Turning

Turning is an indispensable process in modern machining technology. This manufacturing process offers an excellent combination of precision, flexibility and efficiency, enabling the production a wide range of workpieces to high quality.

Advantages of turning:

  • High precision: Turning enables the machining of workpieces with tight tolerances.

  • Versatility: Different shapes and contours can be realised through corresponding tool movements.

  • Quality surface finish: The process can produce very smooth surfaces that often require no post-processing.

Hardening

The hardness of a material is the resistance of that material to deformation, especially through penetration, scratching or wear. Hardening is a metalworking process that significantly increases the performance and durability of metal parts. The targeted modification of the microstructure creates harder and more wear-resistant materials.

Advantages of hardening

  • Increased hardness and wear resistance: Hardened materials are more resistant to mechanical stress and wear.

  • Improved fatigue resistance: The improved hardness and structural stability lead to a longer service life of the material under cyclic loads.

  • Flexibility in application: Various hardening processes enable adaptation to specific requirements and component shapes.

Grinding

Grinding is a machining process that is used for fine machining of workpieces in order to achieve a high surface quality and dimensional accuracy.

Grinding process

  • Surface grinding: This is the grinding of flat workpiece faces. This process is often used for machining tools and machine components.

  • Cylindrical grinding: This process is used to machine cylindrical or tapered workpieces. A distinction is made between external cylindrical grinding and internal cylindrical grinding.

  • Profile grinding: This involves grinding complex profile geometries into a workpiece. This requires special grinding wheels that are pre-formed to the desired finished profile.

Successful customer project:

Veigel relies on precision from BLOHM

Individual requirements demand special solutions - and strong partnerships.
One example of this is our long-standing collaboration with Veigel GmbH + Co KG, the European market leader for dual controls in driving school vehicles and innovative vehicle equipment for people with physical disabilities.

Precision for driving and rehabilitation mobility

We have been supplying customised rollers for Veigel's driving school pedals since 2012. The so-called dual control - an invention of company founder Wilhelm Veigel from the 1920s - is now used in almost all training vehicle types. Our rollers minimise friction and enable precise, safe control of the pedals.

Since 2019, we have also been supplying Veigel with specially developed gas shafts for hand controls in the rehamotive sector. These transmit the driving impulse from the hand grip to the vehicle electronics - an essential component for barrier-free driving. The rehamotive range comprises around 350 innovative products that transfer all foot functions to the hands - with sophisticated design and maximum ergonomics.

Partnership on equal terms

Our collaboration with Veigel shows how technical expertise, quality awareness and a fair exchange on an equal footing can lead to sustainable success. Together, we are creating "Made in Germany" components that make mobility safer, more inclusive and more sustainable.
